On Guard

Stuxnet is a sophisticated computer worm aimed at industrial systems. It was designed to enter industrial plants through corrupted memory sticks. It began attacking industrial sites some months ago. Though no one has been able to confirm who made it or what its ultimate purpose might be, it is believed to have been developed to delay Iran’s nuclear program and, by some reports, it worked.

Stuxnet is designed to wreck havoc to industrial systems by doing things like speed up or slow down industrial pumps or shut down cooling systems. This can cause too much pressure or not enough pressure and cause catastrophic malfunctions.

It has been called a military grade cyber missile and once it infects a system, it is devilishly difficult to remove. In fact, according to the Washington Post, the Iranians are struggling to keep the worm from spreading. Iran’s technology people said that they first thought it would take a couple of months to stop, but the problem has only gotten worse.

All of that from a little memory stick filled with information.

Our hearts are like complex industrial systems, constantly incorporating new information that will either help us run smoothly or that will corrupt us to the point of malfunction. This is why Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life.”

We must constantly guard the information we allow to enter our systems or else we will be subject to the worms and viruses of the spiritual life.
