When will it all end (May 21)?

You might have heard that the world is coming to an end this year. First, the Rapture and Judgment Day will be May 21st. Then the end of days will come in October 21st. Harold Camping has convinced a small group of people that he has figured out the formula for the end. In his own words, “Beyond the shadow of a doubt, May 21 will be the date of the Rapture and the day of judgment.”
The concept of how the world will end has always fascinated people. People cannot get enough. We all want to peer into the future and gain understanding about what will unfold. Books, movies, and sermons have sought to shed light on the topic of how it will all end. Some of the book titles include: The 1980s Countdown to Armageddon, 88 Reasons the Rapture will Happen in 1988, 89 Reasons the Rapture will Happen in 1989, 1994 – which actually predicted Christ would return September 7, 1994, and of course the incredibly popular fictional series Left Behind.
Books, videos, movies, and sermons have made some wild predictions over the years as people have tried to figure out how it will all end. For a while, it was believed the Soviet Union would attack Israel – then the Soviet Union disappeared. Some Christians believed the first Gulf War was the beginning of the end.
And there have been many attempts to name the Anti-Christ. Everyone from the Pope to Hitler, Mussolini, Kissinger, Gorbachev, and even Ronald Reagan.
And on and on the speculation goes.
Here is what we know: Wild speculation and predictions tend to make Christianity look stupid. In Matthew 24:36, Jesus warned us against naming dates when He said, “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows.” Anyone who claims they know is in direct contradiction to Christ’s teaching.
